I have curly to wavy hair, and pretty thick, is layering it OK?

i want it to seem a little thicker at the top than the bottom, i also straighten my hair, and have herd you shouldnt do that cuz it makes your hair more curly or somthing(cuz i have kinda curly hair), thats what my mom says anyways...

also, what does layering your hair actually do? (elaborate)

haha. one hairstylist told me I couldn't get it layered since it was soooooooo thick and curly/ wavy..

however, I went to another, and SHE DID IT!

it turned out GORGEOUS!!

and you should ask to get it thinned out a bit.. really helps with the POOF!
