I'm styling my aunt's hair for a party and she's wanting much looser curls than what she has. The last time I attempted it, I used hair spray and a 1 inch barrel curling iron (what I use on mine) and it looked great for about 10 minutes until we went outside and the humidity got a hold of it. Is it best to apply a serum before using the curling iron, or will this cause the curls not to hold? If not what product is best to guard againt frizziness?
What products should I use for styling curly, thick, course hair?
Being a Hairstylist, I would recommend blowdrying her hair out straight first, Second I would put it in hot rollers and before rolling it up I would spray it with Hot Sets by Redken. After the hot rollers have been in for 15-20 mins, take them out. Then use a smoothing serum like Glass from Reken and lights defy the curls. If there are a few curls that are a bit fuzzy, than use you large barrel curling iron and curl them. Then use a good hairsray like Quick Dry by Redken. This will really hold it in place. I hope this helps.

Maybe Mixed Chicks will work for you. They do well for my family. But you have to follow the very simple directions.
